Diverter valve ideas
I have an 85 car that was not equipped with a diverter valve. Im looking to add one to help with the AC. I also need to keep it clean. My engine bay is very clean Id like to hide it and the heater core lines if possible. So throw me some pics and part numbers on what you have done!!

So your 350 HSR engine was originally a 305 TPI?
Did/does the heater core exit tube in an 85 return to the radiator via a metal pipe mounted on the frame rail in the engine bay, with a ? shaped hose connecting that exit tube to the pipe? Or does it return to the port in the top of the water pump?
And is the heater core still fed from the throttle body, or via a hose on the front of the intake manifold where the U shaped hose was, if you've deleted coolant flow through the throttle body?
I don't see why it wouldn't be possible to have two metal pipes on the frame, one feeding the heater core through a ? shaped hose, and one returning to the radiator, having exited the core through another ? shaped hose.
Install the diverter valve down there, too, and connect it to the pipe that feeds the core from the throttle body hose. Or from a hose in the front of the intake manifold where the U shaped hose was, run underneath the alternator to the valve.
The bypass port on the valve should loop over to a top port in the exiting metal pipe that's going to the radiator, then cap the same port on the feed tube's metal pipe.
Might not be easy to visualize, but it should work, and everything will be somewhat out of sight down on the frame rail, especially if you bypass the throttle body and use the exit port on the front of the intake manifold as the feed.
You'll also need to plumb a vacuum line to the top of the diverter valve, without which none of this works.

So your 350 HSR engine was originally a 305 TPI? Yes originally a 305 tpi car
Did/does the heater core exit tube in an 85 return to the radiator via a metal pipe mounted on the frame rail in the engine bay, with a ? shaped hose connecting that exit tube to the pipe? Or does it return to the port in the top of the water pump? Yes it did have the metal pipe there that went to the radiator outlet
And is the heater core still fed from the throttle body, or via a hose on the front of the intake manifold where the U shaped hose was, if you've deleted coolant flow through the throttle body? It was fed from the front of the intake throttle body was bypassed.
I don't see why it wouldn't be possible to have two metal pipes on the frame, one feeding the heater core through a ? shaped hose, and one returning to the radiator, having exited the core through another ? shaped hose. Ive thought about using an AN line here as I already 2 AN lines on the frame rail running for the trans cooler. Im trying to keep the clutter down as I have removed and welded up all the frame rail mounting holes and its painted nicley.

you could install a manual check valve / bal lvalve. I did before...no coolant would get in I wanted MAX ac in the summer and heat in the winter times... worked great!

I want to install the diverter valve on my 87 TPI, which had been removed. Probably a dumb question but I don't see on a vacuum diagram where the vacuum line goes to. Does it go to the HVAC port?
