Cooling Fan Lower Temp Switch?
Hey everybody,
Spring is here, and I finally got myself back in the garage. Problems abounding.
Firstly, is there a kit or a plug and play replacement switch for the stock cooling fan temp switch?
I'd like to get one that turns on at 200 and off at around 185, but all the ones I've seen posted on here are from long ago threads, and the part no longer exists. I was primarily looking for the JET switch mentioned on here, but no luck anywhere.
I saw Hawks has one, but it runs a bit too cool for my taste. I believe on at 180 off at 165 or something.
Anyone have any suggestions? Or could you point me in the right direction?
Thanks!

Standard Motor Products TS-136. It's the OE switch for an '87 Grand National, supposedly comes on at 208f and off at 188f. Manufacturer says on activation occurs between 204-220f. I got mine at rockauto.

Could probably wire the primary fan relay to control the secondary fan relay

Have you checked when it comes on for you?

Re: Cooling Fan Lower Temp Switch?
On at 208f, off at 188f was what somebody here on tgo said. Activation between 204-220 was a manufacturer response on summitracing.com. I actually haven't confirmed it yet, I got my car drivable in November and I was in stop and go city traffic the only time it got to 220f and refused to go further. The way I figure it, stock is practically useless and this seemed like a decent compromise for a 195f thermostat car. Fyi you'll need a new connector pigtail with the switch, mine crumbled into dust like pretty much everyone else's.

I actually replaced the pigtail and put in a stock sensor last year chasing down a fan issue.
Did solve my problem, but the stock kick on time is no good lol.

Search Ebay for "200'F electric cooling fan thermostat"
Fan on at 200, off 185. $22 free shipping. This link might work

Re: Cooling Fan Lower Temp Switch?
I went from single fan to TPI dual with a separate relay / power source for the second fan....... i really don;t see how the one tiny fan by itself can cool the motor well..it stayed on almost constantly keeping temperatures "constant". but never lowered it past a certain temp...........but the coolant didn't reach the temperature to activate the second fan at idle. GM should have made both fans come on at the same time..........so I wired the second fan to come on at the same time as the first. and also swapped to a LS1 shroud...
I can literally watch the gauge go down now once the fans kick on lol
I spliced the computer trigger wire into a mechanical temp switch closer to the thermostat (kinda like a manual overrde switch that people install).... the computer signal for me serves as a back up trigger in case the fan switch goes bad, and also for an ac fan trigger.
I used a I think its a TS85?? standard brand from Oreil'lys which is on at I believe 220? its kinda close to the computer temp but still it comes on sooner.
AC also blows much colder with the dual fans pulling air over the condenser.
I realize I could have programmed the ecm to turn on sooner
but
1. don;t know how to do that,
B. Its a bit costly to pay for that to be done
Thrice. I like to make things excessively complicated.....
