Camaro front air dam
Does somebody know offhand (or throw a tape) on a Camaro front air dam to measure the height of it. In this case an 86 IROC. Mine didn't come with one and I'm going to build one out of UHMW plastic with a couple of L shaped brackets. Not much point putting it on there if it's too short and does nothing.
thanks

I don't have a measurement off hand but the air dam is really important on these cars. Likewise, they are thicker than you think as they take a lot of abuse going down the road. If you can't find a used one on the interwebs or local junk yard, Hawks sells a new reproduction unit.

Somebody made one that was pretty neat.. i think they used springs that held it in place with air force, yet gave / moved if they hit a curb / parking stop or something.

I like the spring loaded idea, that might be a 2.0 kind of thing for this winter. For now I'd settle for a little lower temps under hood at hwy speeds. The pics I've seen makes me think that they're about 4-6" but who knows.
And it's a twin turbo car so that really ramps up the heat level despite the wrap and turbo blankets/covers, ever seen strut mount caps melt? Plus living outside the city so everything is at hwy speeds.

Wow.... thats HOT lol....what about some kind of heat extractor hood?
I cant help you with exact measurements, but if you can;t find answers....Id say the Trans Am one is about 5 - 6inches. the camaro one looks similar.
About 2 - 2.5 of those inches hangs below the radiator support... the rest of the air dam goes / covers the radiator support and leads the air direct into the condenser. , I assume its designed to help smooth out air flow..
If nobody else answers / gets measurments, I hope that info will be helpful. Theres a couple camaro and trans Am air dam on ebay. Just type camaro air dam.. Hawks sells on there as well as MD muscle and a few other sellers.

1989 karr: yep functional vents installed after I melted everything which does help!
gt4373: took a minute or two this morning (and some coffee) to digest those numbers. That must be the box size but at least it's a good pic. I checked that part number for the air dam on Ebay. And here in Canada $81.38USD plus duty, shipping, handling, plus whatever else they can think of would result in about a $200 plus bill...
Appreciate the help so far guys, I'll keep digging.

Re: Camaro front air dam
I lost a nice paragraph lol ugh..
What if you tried the air dam from one of those Chevy Express vans? They have a nice one and are plentiful..... they shouldnt be damaged since thevans sit so high.
I thought about using it myself and still might cse the repro T/A air dam is so stiff and I cant shove a floor jack under it.

Re: Camaro front air dam
You want it stiff so it continues to duct air at higher speeds. I've found I can slide the jack in from the side, decompress the suspension a bit, then rotate the jack to the center before it's fully supporting the weight of the car. Then it doesn't do the scary shifty slide as the arm goes up. Haven't had a problem letting it down from an angle (on concrete).

Re: Camaro front air dam
Im curious how stiff the van one is... im not sure if its for air deflection, or a scrape guard?.... the van site pretty high so I cant imagine its for a scrape guard though

Re: Camaro front air dam
Anyone know what bolts are used for the air dam? I've tried M6×1 to #14 screws and nothing works. Someone have one handy?
