stock single fan setup
as the title implies i am looking into the stock single fan setup from 84 cars, my TA didn't get the l69 and doesnt have it, but i would like to install one, just not a fan of clutch fans. aside from the fan itself and the pigtail do i need anything extra? does the ecm control the fan or could i also get a fan controller?

Re: stock single fan setup
The L69 had a temp switch in the pass side head, and a relay. The temp switch makes it automatic and the relay allows a small amount of current in the switch to control a much larger current in the motor without requiring the switch to handle it.
Yes you could use a packaged "controller". One of those will include the above ingredients in some form.

yeah i've actually found whole fan and controller setups for like $80 bucks on jegs, my only real motivation to use the stock setup was that thirdgenranch has a whole stock fan assembly for $25 bucks, but as cheap as a universal kit is on jegs or ebay i may just do that if i can find a way to mount it alot cleaner than those push through ziptie things

Prety sure you can get a controller that uses a temp sensor that mounts in an engine casting rather than the kind that pokes into the radiator fins. I don't see any problem with using an aftermarket controller on a stock fan, as long as they're compatible.
