86 to 85 ECM swap?????

Engine: 305TPI for now
Transmission: Modified 700R4
86 to 85 ECM swap?????

What kind of mess am I looking at swaping a 86 TA ECM into a 85 TA both have the same 5.0 litter TPI and same tranny I want to swap the 85MPH speedo in the 1985, with the 86 140MPH speedo. I will also be swaping the rearend out the 86 to my 85

speedo should be a bolt in..


the rear end may require a change of speedo gears in the tranny if the ratio is different than the one being replaced.

the 86 uses a 165 ECM while the 85 has a 870 ECM.

easiest thing would be to swap the entire harness unless you want to repin the exisiting harness to match the 165 ECM. If your going to that much trouble.. I'd opt to go straight to a 730 (90-2) ECM and ditch the MAF..
