Help MAF, MAP, DFI???
I have an 89 Camaro with a 383 stroker in it, 58mm throttle body, good cam, 1-3/4 headers etc, etc. I dyno'ed it and it made 310rwhp, 420 rwft-lb. I was told that a tuned prot car will not make any make HP than that. I had a TPIS Big mouth intake, ported plenum & long tube runners. I changed it to a Super Ram, and ported my TFS heads. I then dyno'ed the car, no change. What's up here?? there is no problem with any component of my car. Is there a limtation that I hit? I'm thinking may be the MAF? Would MAP help, DFI? Baffled? Any one have an idea? I have seen Lingenfelter 383's make well over 450HP. Do you know if they are using MAP? Help???
Well since its a 89 with TPI, I'm assuming it was MAF TPI setup with the 165 ECM. When you did the Stealthram did you change the ECM or chip? I haven't looked into weather or not the 165 ECM can support a Stealthram but I'm sure its possible to some extent. Everyone I know with the Stealthram is running a 730 ECM (Speed Density / MAP) with a custom burned chip. I would recommend you make a post in the DIY PROM board asking if anyone is running a StealthRam on a 165 ECM with a custom $6E code chip. Also, when you did the Stealthram, did you install the same injectors? The Stealthram will flow more than the TPI for sure, but if you're using the same injectors, same ECM, and same chip, the ECM probably will not take full advantage of the additional flow. In fact, you might be running a little lean. The MAF being a restriction might also be a possibility. I've heard the MAF maxes out around 400 hp, but I have no direct experience with that much power on a MAF system myself so I cant say for sure. Did you modify your MAF at all yet? I heard you can do a few things to make it flow better. There are also aftermarket MAFS, but before going that route I would research the ECM/Chip issue.
So I would recommend you look into if the MAF 165 ECM with a $6E custom chip will do what you want, if not you'll need to switch to a MAP system. At that point, you might want to think about running the standalone Holley Commander 950 (around $900). Compared to the cost and trouble of converting to Speed Density MAP it might be a better choice. Depends on if you are a DIY kind of guy or not.

I haven't changed the chip programming yet. It's a custom one and I need to talk with TPIS. The injectors are 24lb and TPIS said they should be good. I have to also put a wide band O2 sensor in it on the Dyno to see if it's lean or not. Thanks for the info. I'll post on the DFI board and see if any one has some info.
