Replace ECM or?

Hello again all,

This is a follow-on post to one I submitted regarding a code 42 that my car is producing. My searches for an answer have found a few references that say the ECM could be bad. If this is a possibility I was considering pulling one from a V-8 camaro at a local yard.

My question is, are a mojority of the ECM's the same? If I pull an ECM from, say, an 86 camaro and stick it in an 89 iroc, is all going to be compatible (aside from the prom)?

I'm hoping to get some insight because if this car is not going to pass CA smog I'll need to decide what to do with it.

Lastly, is there an online reference for the PROM #. I currently have a Delco PROM with #APYS 3509, and an ECM labeled as "remanufactured" with the number 01227165.

Thanks for your help!

You'll need an ECM that ends in "165" to be a drop in.
