Idle Re-Learn

I was wondering if the ECM needs to lre-learn the idle adjustment if you left the battery unplugged for awhile or something. My GP had that 'feature', I was wanting to know if that pertained to any and all ECM cars - in case I unplug the battery to swap it out or work on it or something.

There is a "learn" for the IAC on the SD 7730 $8D and MAF 165 $6E calibrations. In fact, when guys swap their T-stat for a cooler one, they often forget to reset the IAC Min/Max Learn Temps which can cause driveability problems.

I did in fact change my thermostat from 195 to 180 (runs a bit cooler now, temp doens't shoot to the sky when stopped in traffic so quickly anymore), haven't noticed anything wierd... is there a link to show me how to do that, if needed? How would I tell if it needed to get done?

Good tip! I just made some adjustment to my .bin for these settings, 6e. I have been having some problems at idle with my ARAP 6e .bin. I am runninga 180 t-stat.

For reasons unknown to me my .bin has been comanding a 1100-1250rpm idle at various points and times that dont seem to share any thing in common, other then it is around town driving, this doesnt occur on the highway.

My idle tables are set to give me from 750-800rpm once the car is warmed up, so I am confused.

Well, now out to give the new .bin a try.

Please share any experience you may have had with this problem, a search has left me fruitless.

OMNIOUS - I still get a little bit of cold start open loop idle surge. Let me know it playing with IAC learn temps helps out any!

Has anyone else fixed cold start idle surge by playing with IAC learn temps?

I dont have any surging problems actually. What happens is that sometimes the ECM will actually comand an idle of around 1250 rpm, and hold it there, freak. I dont know anything about code reading so I have no idea whats up.

I did set my learn temp to 160low and 220high, havent had the chance to drive on it yet

My idle otherwise is fine, my XR276HR-12 idles fine at 750rpm, the ECM reads it as lean due to the cam size and adds a little fuel but nothing that is out of hand.

Well off to drive it, will let ya know Mike.

Also give a good sescription of what you are experiencing.

In cold start open loop only, I have to nurse the throttle until it warms up and goes into closed loop, otherwise the idle surges from 850 rpm's to 500 rpm's and below back and forth until it dies. Once it's warm, and goes into closed loop, it idles decent (idles arround 800-900 only surging 50 - 100 rpm variant) but still idles decent once in closed loop of course.

Let me know what you find out!

i will repost in a couple/few days when i ahve time to take it back on the road again

Send me over a copy of your .bin.

I will try and comment on how you have your idle setup.

Also what are your IAC counts, at idle, open loop closed loop, hot and cold

I was able to get the car out and rolling agina last night. Didnt run into the high idle problem, so I guess the learn temps were my issue. Will let ya know if this prob reoccurs.

Thanks man. The car has been up now for awhile. It runs real damn strong, I just dont have as much time as I would like to play with it right now, I maybe get to drive it 2 or 3 times a week. I am in an 18hr semester right now all upper division courses, 1 more semester and then grad this May, so time to play with the car is not abundant right now, other priorities.

I do have 650 miles since the rebuild though so its broken in, once winter break hits its off to the dyno to get the final WOT tune finished up and then off to the track, the track is open all year here in AZ.
