Where to buy new ecm??
Im sure this question has been on here before but I have no luck on finding it so I am forced to make a thread.
My question is where can I buy a new ecm online. I thought about GMPartsDirect.com but I cant seem to find it. Also is there a certain model I should get. Thanks

I realize you said new, but could try a salvage yard for a used one. There were alot of V6 cars that had 7730's also. I got mine from a Celibrity for $50.

Corisica I mean... not celebrity. Berreta's had them also, and I'm sure there were others with that body style with V6.

Any early 1990s J-body (Cavalier, Sunbird) with a 3.1 and many of the N-bodies (Corsica, Berreta, Grand Ams) with 3.1s had 7730s. There were some late model 1988-89 cars 2.8 FWD cars that also used the 7730, but many also used MAF - so be careful.
Lastly, the W-bodies (Lumina, Grand Prix, Cutlass, Regal) from the early 1990s with 3.1s used the 727 which is the version from the Vette and can be adapted also.
But if you want a 7730, just say you have a 1991 3.1 Cavalier an any wrecking yard will be able to cross-ref the 7730 for you. They tend to pull those and just cross-ref.

Even the 7730 in the cars with a 2.8 MAF will work, it's in the code that the switch from MAF to MAP, and GM did exactly that on some applications. A 7730 is a 7730 anyway you look at it...(Unless someone has been inside it messing around

Makes sense now that you say it, and I think about it again. I'm pretty sure that the one that were DIS were 7730's and the older ones with a distributor aren't. Guess it's a non-issue though, all you need to do is say that you need a 1227730 service number, and they can get ya one of the shelf! At a parts store, they should be able to put 1227730 into their computer and get ya one....

I looked on thirdgenresource, and it shows that a 1991 5.7 has a code of 16198262 and a 5.0 has a 1227730. So I need the 16198262 right, or am I completely wrong..... heres a link that I saw the info on http://www.thirdgenresource.com/tpi_facts

The MEMCAL is a plug in part that has the calibration (EPROM), the knock filter, and the limp home circuit on it. It is easy to swap over the one you currently have. This is the piece that makes the ECM work with 'this' engine.
The price of the ECM should also be based on whether it comes with the proper MEMCAL or not. Less money if not.

Where can you purchase new memcals. I have a problem where the fuel pump does not shut off at times after the car has run for awhile and thinks its the memcal. It is a 88 305TPI f code engine. Is this a GM only thing?

Yes, MEMCAL's are GM only. As for the fuel pump check both the fuel pump relay and the oil pressure bypass switch. Either could be sticking on.

If I were you I would go to an autozone or another parts house and get a reman one. I know autozone carries A1 Cardone which has a 1 year warranty and it should run you about 75.00. Just so you know A1 is the ramanufacturer of ecu for GM.
