3Gen Ecm swap to 4Gen Pcm on TPI

i was wondering what sensors does the 4Gen Have and need. Is it possiable to make a 4gen PCM work on a 3Gen Tip Motor. I want to do a computer swap but I don't want to go to a Speed Density system. I like MAF because it directly measures air flow and this is what I Perfer. The 4Gen can buy a Large Maf that can be calibreated and No Chips to burn just program the PCM. If anyone knows what sensors the LT1 use and if they can be adapted to what I want let me know

I do know that the opti-spark encoding will be difficult to duplicate. Other then that AFAIK there isn't much else different.

Although I've got a Camino, I'm in the process of converting it over to a 90 - 92 TPI and dropping either a 4L60/4L60E or 4L65E behind it. Right now I've got it stripped down in my shop rebuilding it from the ground up. Like you, I would rather use a P4 which can be programed with a laptop than to burn chips. Your posting is the only one I have seen on this subject, and I have been looking for sometime. I did find that the P4 can be programmed for OBD I by using LT1 Edit. This is something to think about and mybe give us a starting point

Well due to a item that is currently being produced I am going to go with a 1227165 ECM out of the 86-89 Maf cars. The item is The PROMinator click here to see the Post On the PROMinator

(QUOTE FROM PROMINATOR SITE)
The PROMinator eliminates the need EPROM programmers and erasers needed to modify engine calibration parameters. It also eliminates the need to keep endless piles of EPROMs handy. The PROMinator is NOT an emulator...it is a PERMANANT replacement for an EPROM. Once programmed the data is permanently stored until reprogrammed.

PROMinator Web Site

and also a Real Time Version for programming on the fly will be available.

Any first gen PCM will work for you, something like an 8625 probably. Going thur the list of ecms/pcms at WWW.TUNERCAT.COM will give you a list of candidates.

Grumpy, I've got 2 ECM/PCM's the first one is 1228706 out of a Cutlass it has a 27C256 32K*8 Eprom. From the outside it looks like a 1227730. The other is a 16183247 which uses a 27C512 32K*8 Eprom. It is listed as a P4 on one site but I found some of the tunners calling it a P6 and it is listed on Tunercat.com. In doing My swap, I plan on using a painless Harness which uses the 1227730. (Even though I'm an Instructor and understand the ECM concepts in theory, this is more of an area which requires a higher level of computor engineering and knowledge of electronics.)
The 1227730 uses the same Eprom as the 1228706. Now with all of this said, will either of these work for me? I have the wiring harness for both cars.
