What do i need to connect my laptop to my ALDL and be able to view information about my enigne? I have a 91 Camaro V-6 3.1

 

For a cable any of the two-transistor or one that use a 232 chip will work. Can also purchase a cable from folks such as AKM (Andrew).

As for software need to bug Pasky. Nothing openly available otherwise. Some folks have modified Moates software but apparently haven't released it openly.

What is the WinALDL i read about? can i jsut download it? How much to cables run? I would prefer not to spend too much on a cable to hook up to my aldl.

 

WinALDL will not work, it is for 160 baud ECMs. The '730 in your car is a 8192 baud ECM (much better BTW). A cable can run for 5 dollars for a DIY to 50 or so for a pre-built. Here is one source for a pre-built: http://www.akmcables.com/

Again, the bottom line is that ! currently ! no-one has let go of a scan tool PC based program ! free ! to data log these engines/ECMs.

At this point in time the best bet is to get Moates software and convert it to work on the 3.1L: http://moates.net/gmecm/software.html

At this site there will be links to ECM852.ZIP
and such, that is the scan tool software. It will need to be changed a little to operate with the $88 maskid of the 3.1l MPFI V6.

If you find a free-ware scan tool please post it. As many others are looking for the same.
