ecm bad? or not

just wondering if anybody recognizes these symptoms as a ecm prob. after starting it runs normal for a second at high idle then sputters and dies. if i step on gas it runs like the timing is way off and dies with a backfire thru the throttle. i had the ac hooked up with no diode and i spiked the ecm i believe. the fuel pump checks out as being bad or on the verge of bad but it seems like more that that. has anyone had this prob?

I was thinking fuel pump before I even got to that sentance. After a new fuel pump & fuel filter, if the problem persists I would consider/test the igniton module and distributor pickup coil.
