timing with acell dfi

i put together a 383 and i had someone set up my base calibrations for me.he had set timing in the calmap software to 25deg(btdc).my question is do i set the timing mark on the dampner to this with the est disconected?this seems an awful lot to me being that this is inital timing.is the timing(25 deg) in calmap the total timing?if i set the dampner to 25 deg wouldn't that be 50 deg total? the motor runs real hot so i think that its way to far advanced.any help would be appreciated....
