ECM question
........My question is , did all 3rd generation z28's come with an ECM? My car is an 85 z28 lg4 4 bbl auto. There is no indication of a computer. Did someone swap engines or did some come noncomputerized? Thanks.........Zapr.

In your case the '85 LG4 ran a computer controlled carb (CCC). The ECM controlled the TCC, cruise AFR (via mixture rods in the carb), EGR, AIR, spark timing, and may be a few others I missed.
If the ECM has been yanked at a minimum you will need a standard centrifugal/vacuum controlled distributor.
A quick check for an ECM would be the SES light. It should illuminate with key on, engine off. Then turn off once the engine is running. If so then ECM is there, if not, then the bulb can be missing or burnt out, or the ECM is history. . .

But whether or not you pass the test depends on what test procedure is utilized in your area, and how closely the inspector actually checks.

From what's in the GM parts catalog, I believe at least some of the LG4 cars sold in Canada were not computer controlled.
Don't know about '85 specifically, though.
IIRC, the parts microfiche lists a vacuum advance distributor as being used on the export models; also should have a non-computer controlled carb. The CCC Q-jets can be easily identified by two electrical connectors attached to the carburetor -- one for the mixture control solenoid, and the other for the TPS sensor.
I've no idea what the Canadian emissions requirements are, so disregard my previous post about the legality.
