749 ECM Questions

I'm working on a 1987 V6 firebird with a 95 3.4 that has a pretty healthy cam, headwork, etc, and is running on the original ECM...not sure what #, it has been replaced and the service number is no longer there. The car really needs a custom prom, and someone who seems pretty knowledgable suggested converting over to speed density first, since the later ECMs are better and the V6 MAFs are a restriction.
This car will probably be turbocharged in the not too distant future, so would it make sense to go ahead and convert to the 749 ECM, and run it with a standard 1 bar MAP sensor while its still NA? Will it work ok in a NA application? I'm thinking we could have the better ECM now, and burn a chip for it for the existing application, and just change the MAP sensor and chip when the turbo goes on.
