Fried ECM?

My camaro is doing some thing that has me totaly confused. in the mornings when i go to start it i have to crank it until its starts and then it back fires and dies. it does this like 5 times before it stays running. The fan will not kick in when i drive it (it used to stay on all the time.). It use to be fairly powerfull (Beat all kinds of little jap cars) but now it won't even accelerate past 65. periodicaly it will go to idle and then it will get a huge amount of power from some where and go like a rocket for a few second them it will go back to having no power. I think it might have some thing to do with the ECM because when i try to flash error codes it does nothing. I tun the key and the light just stays on. if i wait for like a minute it will make a funky click noise and all the lights shut off and turn back on. it does this like three times before the ECM will start flashing codes. it will go through all that it has stored 1 time and the about halfway through the second time it resets and will no longer give codes

IIRC the fan is controlled by a switch in the cylinder head, not the ECM. If it stayed on always and now doesn't. . . It may have been wired to stay on and now the motor is burned out.

The only light the ECM controls is the SES light. So if others are going off then back on, that isn't the ECM.

The ECM may still be bad, however, there may also be multiple problems. I would check the basics such as fuel pressure, tuneup and wiring. Check the fusible links down on the starter, they tend to cause problems.

If nothing is found then try an ECM. Can usually get them inexpensively.
