Gettin SES light but wont stay on!

Ok so sometimes (which is gettin more frequet everyday) a annoying little SES light will pop up.

so i went to autozone, to get it checked out, i thought that once you turn off the code the problem isnt shown anymore. so i told him that it goes off when the car is off, he was using a little two pronged key (which he gave me) and said that if i put it in when the car is on it would short everything. he also told me that its possible my ECM isnt holding memory and i porbably need a new one.

so do i need a new ecm? i woudl like this problem to get figured out before i put it away for winter (which is like a week )

Codes are only set when there's a *hard failure*. A momentary *too* leaness, or intermittent connection, might give a SES light without setting a code.

While it very well might be an ecm problem, I'd do more testing before replacing it. ie have someone hook a scanner to it, and see if it's actually working right.
