Help on Proms

Ok, I know this sounds like a stupid question, however I have done numerous searches with no luck.
So could someone please point me in the right direction.
I have an 86 Iroc with a 305, I am doing the finishing touches on the 406 that I am droppin in the car next week. Finished installing the injectors and fuel rail, called Street and Performance to order a plug for the 9th injector that I am deleting. They told me that I would have to run an 89 computer because it is the only year camaro that ran a MAF without the 9th injector.
So the question, or questions
I was planning on having a local shop tune and burn me a chip to suit the new combo. Now S&P has left me in doubt. Are the actual computers different as in wiring etc, or can I have the shop burn me a chip with the actual computer I have?
Leading me to a few other questions Is the 89 computer a plug in and then add the custom chip, or do I have to do wire conversion similar to a SD set-up? In my searches I have found that some are 255 bit, and others are better. This is all foreign to me, So Im asking for help. The longer I try to narrow the searches down to be more specific the more lost I seam to get
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated
-Pete
