computer tunning. I NEED ADVICE
I am new to the tpi world so bare with me. I plan on having my 87 gta,L98, sdpc tpi kit with vortec heads, vortec base plate, headers, 1.6 rockers, test pipe, flow master cat back, dyno'd this weekend. i was told to do some chip tunning to get the right air fuel mixture and get peak performance. my question is, is it possible to change the settings in the comp when i have it on the dyno? what can or cant be changed. is it even possible to do chip tunning and if so, what can you do. thanks.

Car: Take your pick. Probably a '72 Cheyenne/20 or '91 Maxima
Engine: Truck has a 350 W/454 TBI, 350 Injectors, 7747/G2/Atmel
Transmission: TH350...Aint dat a bitch
It would really help if you told us what ECM you are using.
Yes, it is possible to tune in real time. Transtronics (www.xtronics.com) sells the pocket romulator and Craig Moates (www.moates.net) sells the "ostrich" which is a better deal IMHO. Both work with a program called TunerproRT for GM vehicles

Yes you can do live changes, it is called emulation. It is discussed in the above referenced article. Since I did not have a large amount of change to make in my application, I opted for a less expensive route. I did it using Moates' equipment (Click here) The same equipment I list can be used with your application, but a different ECU file is needed. But I can add Moates' Ostrich later and still have real-time changes (emulation). Or you can get Moates' AutoProm Package and have it all.
Read that article I linked above until every single term is clear. Then read the following two links:
https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/promintro.shtml
https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=238965
After that, start searching and following discussions over at the DIY-PROM forum here at TGO.
It will eventually click and the support at the DIY forum is second to none as far as I am concerned. Best of luck, Ed.
