Can these codes cause open-loop?
Ok, 1986 LB9 305 TPI, the car is going crazy after my header install, but i cant find reason to blame the headers. i did take off my AIR system and changed plugs, wires, and O2 sensor. ok, now...
im getting codes 13, 34, 41, 42, and 54. wow. these are what they mean from this site:
13. Oxygen sensor signal stays lean during warm engine cruise
34. Low voltage (high vacuum) at mass air flow sensor (or MAP sensor)
41. Fault at cam sensor OR
Cylinder select error OR
Tach input error
42. Fault at electronic spark timing circuit OR
Fault at direct ignition system OR
Fault at fuel cutoff relay circuit
54. Low voltage at fuel pump OR
Low voltage at Fuel pump relay OR
Output failure at quad driver module
while the car is running, warmed up, i jump A and B on the ALDL and the SES light blinks very fast, i believe that means it is still in open-loop, correct? It should blink once a second for closed-loop. Can any of these codes be making my ECM stay im open-loop??
BTW, it runs like poo, im guessing that code 34 or 42 might be the most important.
thanks a ton, or like 5 tons for any help with this. ill be stuck driving a ford ranger until i can fix this!! haha

My guess would be that there are loose ground wires, or battery cable clamps, or something that was touched during the header install. Ground wires at the back of the heads is a common issue.
And, a code 13 will force open loop.

hmm, im just about to double check those 2 grounds on the heads, those were a pain to play with haha, removing that AIR tube and all. might i ask what some of those grounds are for??
And, my O2 sensor is not 100% screwed in, its about 1/8" from being fully screwed in, i couldnt get the thing all the way and i was frustrated that day. could this cause the sensor read wrong? although i would assume it would read rich but who knows.
if anything, the AIR removal should make it read rich, i would think

I reset my codes, drove a while and it ran normal, but witht he light on as always. stopped and checked codes and got 13,21,and 41 only. if the others dont come back im willing to ignore them, and im going to be adjusting my IAC and TPS to hopefuly get rid of 21.
Let me ask, for a code such as 41, whic of the "ORs" is the one that my car has an error for?? 1986 305 TPI. someone has told me the "cylinder select error" but i dont know what that means.
thanks guys

13 Oxygen sensor voltage stays between 0.35 and 0.55 volts for 60 seconds. Engine was at normal operating temperature and had been running for at least 2 minutes after start with a throttle angle above 5%.
14 Coolant temperature sensor signal indicates a temperature of over 266° F for 3 seconds.
15 Coolant temperature sensor signal indicates a temperature colder than -38° F for 3 seconds.
21 TPS voltage was above 2.5 volts for 3 seconds when the MAP sensor signal showed manifold vacuum to be 15 pounds or more, or TPS was above 4.8 volts at anytime.
22 TPS voltage was under 0.2 volts for 2 seconds when the engine was running.
23 Manifold air temperature sensor signal showed an air temperature below -22° F after the engine has been running for 5 minutes.
24 When engine speed was between 1400 and 3600 RPM and throttle position angle was less than 2% for at least 4 seconds.
25 Manifold air temperature sensor signal showed an air temperature over 302° F for 2 seconds after the engine has been running for 2 minutes and vehicle speed was greater than 5 MPH.
32 EGR open command did not change the fuel mixture when the command was given during off idle operation. EGR opening should cause the mixture to be slightly richer because of the low oxygen content of exhaust gas.
33 MAF sensor indicated an air flow of 45 gm/sec or more for 1 second when TPS was less than 1/4 throttle and engine speed was under 2000 RPM.
34 MAF sensor indicated an air flow of 25 gm/sec or less for 1 second when TPS was above 6% and engine speed was above 2300 RPM.
41 Faulty or incorrect MEM-CAL.
42 The EST signal did not change when the ECM applied bypass voltage to the ignition module.
43 The ECM did not detect a knock signal during near wide open throttle operation with coolant temperature above 194° F or the knock signal was present for 5 seconds or more during normal engine operation.
44 Oxygen sensor voltage was under 0.2 volts for 50 seconds of closed loop operation.
45 Oxygen sensor voltage was over 0.7 volts for 50 seconds with a throttle angle above 2%.
51 MEM-CAL error.
52 CALPAK error.
53 ECM sees a battery voltage of more than 17.1 volts for 2 seconds.
54 Fuel pump voltage was less than 2 volts for 1.5 seconds since the last reference pulse was received.

When you have more then one code, start working on the higher ones first.
ie if you have any 50 series codes, you have to fix them before doing anything else.
Then 40s->30s->20s...
The exception is when you have a 44, and/ or a 45, with a 13 they're usually all tied together.

Ok cool, thanks, i didnt know about that order. and maybe that list is more specific. first ill work on the 41, ill see if a previous owner has played PROM programmer wrong or something with my memcal. iv never looked at it yet.
thanks for replying guys.
