Reason to suspect a bad ECM?

Hypothetical question:

Could trying to run a 730 ecm with a $32B mask cause any ECM damage? I know it doesn't have the slightest chance of running the car, but I was curious as to whether or not it can damage anything.

Probably not. They are basically the same ECM.

The 165 and 730 are that similar internally?

Anyone know how I can find out for sure? I contacted my local GM dealer and asked if there was any way they can provide me with a number I can call and speak with a GM engineer. I wasn't very successful.

I've been looking at the circuit diagrams at cruzers, but I'm not an engineer.
