remove vats from hypertech chip?

is there anyway to remove VATS form a hypertech chip or should i just get a stock chip and have VATS removed?

I need to remove it so i can run my 89 motor/harness and ecm in my non VATS 88 trans am..

What kind of tools do i need to burn a new chip? can i use my desktop computer? Do i need a laptop?

Im sure its on this site somewhere,I spend about 3 hours searching last night..And now im more confused than before..

Any help would be appriciated..thx

You'll need:
1.) A blank chip
2.) A programmer
3.) Programming software
4.) Editing software
5.) PC

Typically, if you're burning chips, you'd need to log the data from the ECM to allow you to fine-tune your progress, but if all you want to do is disable VATS, then there's no need for data logging. Just pull the chip from your ECM, read it & save it on your PC; edit the VATS flag to diable it; pop the new blank chip in the programmer; write it and off you go.

Programmer (there are many & most come with the programming software):

PROM Editor (to edit VATS out):

You can download the demo version of TunerCATS for free and pay them $20 for the definition file for your ECM. You should be ready to go in about $120 or so and then you'll be able to edit anything you want in the future.
