Diagnostic Applications

Hey, I tried searching for the topic and I looked at all of the stickies at the top of the page but I couldn't really find what I was looking for, or I need more explanation.

All I really want to know at this time, is what sort of app I can download and use on my laptop to just diagnose my car.

I know I need to get the connector and all of that, but I just need to know what programs are out there an available to just diagnose, not necessarily to burn proms or whatever you do with that stuff.

ones that are free / ones you have to buy / etc. just need to know what's out there

thanks

Lots of links to scanning software can be found at:
http://www.akmcables.com/

Moates' ECM 8.52 and 8.53 are free DOS-based scanners that work well.

For a Windows app, lots of us also use TunerPro RT.
