*Modern* Diagnostic Equipment (for PCs)?
Hey all,
I'm having some issues with my '89 IROC (L98) which I suspect are ECM-related. Thus, I would like to start being able to see what exactly is going on with the ECM while the car is running--essentially, use a scanner. I can't really afford a dedicated scanner, so I'm wanting to use my Laptop in conjunction with the proper cable to do what a dedicated scanner would do. Not an uncommon task, and I realize there are plenty of resources out there for this (i.e. Craig Moates software, cable kits, etc.).
The problem is, all of my computer equipment is "modern"--that is, I don't have any serial ports or floppy drives on any of my machines. The Moates software runs in DOS, but I can't boot DOS with a floppy. Even if I booted with a bootable CD, DOS doesn't have USB support.
I already know where I can find a USB ALDL cable. Is there any software out there that will be able to use an USB cable in either Windows XP or Linux? (Preferably free?)

You'll need the correct definition file - xdf
and datastream definition- ads
Dig around in the usual places and you should find plenty.
Are you one of Mark's buddies giving a free plug????
I wish more LT1 questions were asked like this
