MAF question
I've noticed some posts in which people have said that some people dont have MAF's. Does this mean they have MAP's or does it mean they have nothing altogether. If it is indeed the latter, does it affect the air flow to the engine a lot if i were to take out the MAF sensor. I say this because I cannot think of a reasonable way to make a cold air induction without disturbing the operations of the MAF sensor. I've noticed that some people have air filters mounted directly onto the throttle body. What are the advantages and disadvantages to doing this. (I noticed now I may have posted this in the wrong forum, so I'm going to post this in the TPI forum as well, hope this doesn't break any rules or anything).

Although a MAF ECM can run without a MAF sensor connected, I'd venture to say that most of us without MAFs are indeed running MAP.
There's a ton of info on the '730/speed density conversion over on the DIY PROM board that can be found with a search.
Air filter on the TB can make for a very quick throttle response, since the intake tract is so short and unrestricted. A downside is that the engine can wind up breathing hotter underhood air, reducing power. Sometimes it's the best option, sometimes not -- it depends on the details.

if you simply take the MAF out, your computer will be unable to properly tune your motor. It will turn on your "service engine" light and go into "limp home mode", which means it get's fuel/spark according to a factory preset(not even remotely ideal) tune. by by gas mileage... - as stated, most cars that don't have an MAF are MAP. Some run w/o, but you better be REALLY good at chip tuning for that, and you'll have to change your tune for the weather. Thats why it is usually only used in racing.
