maf upgrades

I have an 87 Iroc with a 383ci TPI engine. I am planning on installing the Accel DFI to gain some control in programming the engine to run more efficiently. I realize there are not alot of MAF options for the factory setup, but with changing the ECU and all could a LS6 MAF or something similar be used. The car tanked on the dyno at 4000 rpm, it should redline at 6200. I know that the program on the chip that is in the car now is not very good, but I am still running the ECU from the 305 TPI engine that came in the car. Any advice and info would be greatly appreciated

Are you still using the stock chip in the ecu? I'm running a 350 with a stock maf sensor (without the screens) and I don't have any problem with hitting 6500 rpms. I have stepped up to a bigger throttle body and done a little work to the plenum and fuel rails. When I first went to TPI I didn't know anything about fuel injection and as long as I used the stock chip I didn't get anything close to what I wanted out of it. Superchip and hypertech didn't show much change either. The change came when a friend told me about 3rd gen.org and I found out about burning my own chips.
Anyway, I hope I helped. If not hopefully someone who has used other types of ECUs will reply.

do you ever check out the DIY PROM forum? I think it the one above DFI AND ECM. Money-wise not counting the laptop, I ended up with less than $300, if I remember correctly. I'll try to get some of the basics together and send it to you. You can get everything you need from www.moates.net and tunerpro.markmansur.com . I am not the one to try to teach someone else how to do this, but I will help all I can.
