GM EGR question??

My application is all aftermarket anyway with vortec heads and Edelbrock lower intake and hiflow runners. Just picking a year of 1990 GM has at least two part numbers for EGR one for Camaro/Firebird which sucks gases from the heads and another for the Corvette that has a tube bypass from the exhaust header. Currently I am taking exhaust from the header as the vortecs don't have an EGR provision but am using a Camaro EGR, I know the EGR valve is mechanically functional but will it work correctly in this application or is the Corvette valve balanced differently for external plumbing?
