Has anyone used the same Delco ECU as several Holden cars use?

Has anyone used the same Delco ECU as several Holden cars use?

I recently had a few problems with my Trans Am, and after chasing my tail for weeks and took it to a well known EFI guy. He spend 3 hrs testing everything and making sure all the sensors were wired back correctly.

In the end he came to the same conclusion I was fearing, that the ECM was damaged. One of the chips looked like it was getting really hot and the protective plastic had melted over it. So he installed a new ECM. He said that it is the same Delco unit as what's on many Holden Cars, like the Astra, Camera and Early model V8 Commodores.

It looks the same as the one that came out, and it's using my EPROM chip, and it's back to running how it used to, but I just wanted to check that this is ok as I was not aware that you could use the same ECU as other Holden's had, I thought they had to be matched up with serial numbers and engine types and so on and then expect to spend heaps.

While the car is back to running the same as it used to before all my troubles happen, I can't get the TunerPro RT software to connect anymore.

While all my other problems are fixed, I still have a rough idle when warm and the EFI guy said every sensor was working text book perfect like!

The ECU you originally had in your car would have been a 1227165 which is almost identical to the GMH 1227808 as released in early Holdens as you've already described. The only difference between the 2 is that your original 1227165 ECU had a baud rate of 8192 whereas the 1227808 you now have has a baud rate of 160. This probably explains why TunerPRO RT isn't working.

Your 3 options would be:

A: Setup TunerPRO RT for a 1227808 ECU.
B: Use WinALDL which will allow your to log at 160 baud.
C: Get another 1227165 ECU from the US of A.

Without a doubt C is the better option. I bought a 1227165 to replace my 1227808 in my V8 VP of eBay for US$10.

Hope that helps.

Hi and thanks heaps for your info and help.

I am now on the look out for a MAF 1227165 if you happen to see any around cheap enough.

I'm also planing (long term) a MAP conversion so if you or anyone happens to know of any MAP 1227730 ECU's cheap enough then also keep me in mind.

Thanks again.
Francis.
