DFI install

I am looking at winger 4800's procharger system.
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/engi...c-w-3core.html

I have done Megasquirt on about 4 rides now and do understand EFI fairly well. But I do not know anything about Accel's DFI.

I am working with a 88 350 camaro, mild mods with completely stock EFI.

This DFI system looks like a speed density system. To convert to DFI I would need to convert to MAP instead of MAF. Is this a rewire, or just a replug of the MAF sensor and plug in a map sensor. What other suprises would I find. TCC control?

What does it take to tune Accel DFI (this looks like an older system) Would I need to purchase software for my laptop? special hardware?

Thanks for looking at some DFI newbie questions.

If you've done ms tuning, you'll be ok to jump into the older DFI stuff. There's some similarities. Be advised that the older Gen 6 tuning software REQUIRES a DOS computer environment. It works best with pure DOS version 6.22, or in a DOS shell via Windoze 95. Anything newer is a crap shoot.

All the ACCEL systems are speed density, you'll need to plumb in a MAP sensor and ditch any MAF that may be present.

You can download the Gen 6 programming software and have a look at it from HERE.

Make sure you have a cable to connect between your laptop and the DFI unit. The older ones required for Gen 6 programming are getting pretty tough to find. Although, if you look hard enough on the web, you come up with something that might work.

Also keep in mind that the old Gen 6 stuff is very close to not being supported anymore. If something goes wrong with the DFI, it may or may not be able to be repaired through ACCEL. Depends on if there are any parts available or not.

Hate to hijack the thread, but did you find it easier to preserve the stock harness and splice in the magasquirt, or did you rip out the stock wiring and start fresh...

I have done both, but if there is an existing EFI system I always have used that, I have made an adapter plug for my turbo ranger, and I have done the cut the harness plug of and just solder the wires to the MS plug of the TT5.0L and honda civic and on my big block stang which was carbed I made most of the harness from my big stash of existing old harness's.

Usually there is a few things that have to be tweaked in the stock harness, but if you have a good wiring diagram of the current EFi system the MS can be installed without much todo. It actually takes more time to figure out all the little mods you want inside the MS to work with various ignition systems and programable outputs that you want to use such as TCC lockup.
