New computer

Hey guy's I need to get a new computer for my 88gta 5.7.I was wondering if I need the computer from a tune port with the MAF on it or if I can just get one from any tune port motor,Also is a junkyard a decent option to get one or should I just order a rebuilt for 80.00 bucks.I don't know if the junkyard one is gonna be agood option or not .

Just my opinion, but.... If it were me I would buy the rebuilt one ordered for your specific car. Hard to say what a junkyard would sell ya and the cost would probably be close to the rebuilt one. Besides from a yard you don't know for sure whether you're getting a good one or not.

plus, a SD car would not have the code to use a MAF and vice versa. Also, if the donor car has VATS, it wont work.

You need a 1227165 ECM - nothing else will work. They are found in mostly in 1986-1989 TPI F-bodies & Y-bodies (Vettes). There are also a few other cars/trucks which I can't remember.

Best place to get one is at a wrecking yard. Typically, wrecking yards charge the no more than the "core price" GM gives you on your ECM (when you buy a new one).

There is also a new Virtual JunkYard on TGO (if you are having a problem finding a 165 locally or if you think their prices are too high.

4 cyl S-10 trucks use the -165 ECM. They are probably the easiest to find in the wrecking yards
