ignition

Are the accel gen VII systems compatible with the DIS ignition, or only hei.

It depends on the type of Ignition. The Gen 7 can read anything that produces a trigger signal having one pulse per cylinder event. Some DIS systems (like the Buick GN or Ford EDIS) use an ignition module to read the crank sensor, then that module produces a pulsed signal that can be read by the stock PCM (and the DFI).
