Taking out the emissions crap. Which is which?
Taking out the emissions crap. Which is which?
Theres 10 million emieeions hoses in my car it seems like.
We dont have any sort of emsissions in the town where I live so I can do whatever.
I want to be able to easily find something under the hood or change the spark plugs w/o taking forever.
Problem is I dont know what is needed and what is not. Im afraid if I take something off that IS needed or if I forget to plug something up or do something in response to my taking an emission part out, that it will **** of the computer and just send up all sorts of flags and turn on warning lights.
What exactly do I need to do?
Sorry if this is a noob question. Not really good with this since Ive got an old truck and am not used to all this clutter under the hood!
Its an 89RS btw, with a 700r4 and TBI
Thanks

Re: Taking out the emissions crap. Which is which?
This topic is one of the most covered exhaust topics, not really an ECM problem
And to guess your next question about what parts can be removed without upsetting the computer... Everything emissions related can be removed
Things like the O2 and EGR are commonly labeled as emissions but are not and thus should be retained

Go to DIY Prom and read the stickies a million times. You'll get the hang of how to do it yourself.
By the way, that might be illegal.
So all this is just hypethetical.

Theres no such thing as emissions out where I live. I could be driving down the road with plumes of smoke flying out of my truck and nobody can tell me sh**, although my truck is in great running shape and doesnt do that

That's KOOL!
Georgia is sorta lax, but a couple cities are hard asses. I'm 25 miles out of Chattanooga, and they think they are part of California instead of the south.

If you live in the United States and you drive your car on the street, then FEDERAL law says you must keep all stock emissions equipment on the car. Federal law takes precedence over state law.
Just for your information.

DIY proms is really the board to look for, as someone already mentioned. if your taking stuff off, make sure you know what it does first. if you take off your egr valve make sure you make a plate to cover up the port it was attatched to and plug the vaccum line that was attatched to it.
