Make a False Maf?

Well after looking at how the Maf works would it be possible to fool the computer with a varied voltage source based on throttle position? Makes sense to me, cause it seems the maf just puts out a voltage amount, an based on that the computer has its own tables. Or am i mistaken? Car is an 85 tpi.
Will be switching to Map and a newer ecm soon wanted to wait till i get a 350 together though.

Re: Make a False Maf?

If the MAF connector is unplugged the ECM will do that for you. The ECM seeing that it doesn't have a MAF signal will create an airflow value based on the TPS% and engine RPM.

Try it, will turn on the SES light but you can drive the car.

Re: Make a False Maf?

When its unplugged i get no power at all to the entire car. But if it has a ground on it and all the others are not connected/corroeded i can see why. Im just confused about this thing. My dad told me there was a Maf problem and there was something wrong with the Tb when he gave me the car. Years back i remember putting on a Maf but after looking at it now it appears to be very diffrent than the original(have both). Just looking for a solution want to have this car up and runnin for the summer. After i get the rather old gas out should i try to run the original, and diagnose the problem from there? Or what i know that both sensors throw code 34 at me.

Re: Make a False Maf?

Wow, unplugging the MAF shouldn't shut down the whole car. I do recall that the '85 TPI's do have a one year only burnoff setup.

Not sure what to say other then it sounds like there are some wiring issues.

How does it run with the code 34 set and the SES on? With the code active the ECM is doing as I explained above with the creation of an airflow value.

Re: Make a False Maf?

Well frm what i remember it would idle fine for a little while and die off after 30-45 secs or so but if u gave it some throttle it would be fine for another 30-45. Havent had the chance to start it yet gotta sell my other thirdgen which should be some time later today so i have some $$ for parts/gas ect. will post what it does.
