How do I know if this is the correct ECM?
I've got an '85 IROC TPI and I need to replace my ECM and am wondering if this is the correct ECM for the job? I originally got an ECM from what I was told was out of an '87 Camaro but I'm guessing it was for the 4 or 6 cylinder model (because the connectors were completely different).
This is the ECM I am told is for an '85 Camaro w/ 5.0 (the only pic available):
This is the ECM that my car currently has in it:

1985 ECM : #1226870
The last picture has the tight numbers and are to ECM for an 1985 Camaro
The first picture with ECM #1226865 is for an CCC engine (computer controlled carburetor) so if you got an TPI you need an ECM with number #1226870

Thanks King. And Wrapper, how much did you pay for yours? I'm having trouble finding one although I did find the GM part number. Any good place to get a hold of one of these? I'm replacing this because I was told by a local shop that my computer was bad and that's why my fan's not coming on. I had already replaced the sensor on the front of the intake manifold and the relay near the battery before taking it in to the shop. I had read though that the in a single fan setup (like mine) the computer does NOT control the fan switching on, the temp sensor does. But the wiring from my relay near the battery runs back to the computer and the wiring from the temp sensor on the front of the intake manifold runs that direction to so is it possible that this car was a dual fan car? Because I read that the dual fan setup has 1 fan controlled by the computer and 1 fan controlled by a temp sensor. This car has A/C if that means anything to this problem of mine. I was hoping for an easy way to make the fan turn on using the relay and the temp sensor and bypassing the computer so I wouldn't have to replace it but I'm not sure what I should do with this thing.

Well, you COULD put in a switch to turn it on manually, but my preference is the factory route. did you test/check the fan switch on the engine block.... near the starter on pass. side if car. it looks like a knock sensor. Alot of times this is the problem with fan controll problems. I had to replace mine to get mine to work. the connector can be broken/ corroded also. if this switch isnt working, it cant tell the ecm to turn off/ on the fan when it reaches temp, or when it is cool enough to turn them off.
One of the guys on the boards...jayk2k3 may still have one. He offered me one after I had already found one for my TA.
Good Luck, Dude

I'm not sure that I have that fan switch on the block near the starter...I thought the one on the front of the intake manifold was a substitute for that. I believe the one I have is because I have the California emissions package.

As far as I know you should have it on your car. The one on the manifold is for manfold temp.

No idea what that one is, unless you mean the temp sensor. Not sure about California emissins cars bieng different, but you should check to see if that switch is on pass. engine side between cyl 6 and 8.
