Will this setup work if I wanted to use it on a gen 1 sbc with a single plane intake and 4 barrel style throttle body? I'm using a manifold with 8 injectors so what I'm wondering is will your setup compatible with the IACs on those TBs. I would think the only issue with the TPS would be plug style since it's basically just a variable resistor.

TPIS has a 90mm (1500 cfm) throttle body for your application.

Ok I'm definetly interested. My only other questions are is there any issue running the front cover on a 400 small block I know some of the timing chain areas are a little different on the older ones I'll check with the engine builder about the one I already have machined. Also could I opt to add an MSD setup later on. I'd like to talk to you about some other options too once your back from vacation or whatever on the 2nd. thanks Will

Just curious. What is the MSD system going to gain you?
We're currently in Chaska, MN with TPIS (http://www.tpis.com) doing a dyno session on a 396ci LT1. Comparing LT1 PCM as baseline to 24x LS1 PCM gains.

I have owned several 400 smallblocks and have never seen or heard of the timing cover being different than any other Gen1 SBC. The Plastic Vortec cover has 2 less mounting holes, but it should still bolt up fine.

I'm not sure how well Vortec timing cover fits the 400ci block.
Just curious. What is the MSD system going to gain you?

How much tuning of the PCM is needed? For an auto trans, wouldn't the LS1 PCM expect a 4L60E, and try to control shift points? What about other systems that aren't present on our cars, like ABS and traction control? Sorry if these are dumb questions, I am not very familiar with the LS1 PCM.
Also, I know the LS1 firing order is different than the Gen1 engines, can that also be changed in the PCM? Or do you just hook the injectors and coils up to "fool" the PCM into doing the Gen1 firing order?

I have this exact same engine in my 85 trans am. How do I tell what engine type it is? This engine looks and sounds exactly the same as the video so I have no doubt that it is the same. Is this an LS1 engine? And if so, how much is it worth?

Mine has been up and running now for a month on my rolling chassis. It's a 383 hydraulic (retro) roller cam, singleplane intake with Edelbrock elbow and LS2 drive by wire throttle body. A nitrous spray plate was added between the elbow and throttle body.
