if i advance timing how will it effect my ecm?

im getting ready to check/adjust my timing

i have no capabilities to burn chips nor do i want to spend that kind of money nor willl i

ive heard ppl take their tpi engines and advance just 2 degrees from 6 to 8 degrees

can i do this without having to burn a new prom/having mine sent out to be adjusted?

or will i be fine and just see how the car runs?

any suggestions

just tying to get rid of an idle problem ill see if 6 will fix it cuz last time i checked it was around 5

but ive heard 8 works better even if its not stock

just testing the waters hear and seeing what you guys think

I've run 6 and 8 myself. Once you get your timing light hooked up, you'll be able to see the huge amount of difference in idle that happens when adjusting the distributor even small amounts.

Personally I found that 8 pings on WOT, especially when it's hot out. Ditto sitting in hot traffic with the A/C blasting. I went to 6 and like it better....However, my chip was already tuned and I'm guessing it was maxed out based on 6 degrees. My knock sensor is also disconnected which might have something to do with it.

I wouldn't go past 8 myself, but it's worth a shot.
