Re: about megasquirt
Phew, that is a loaded question.
No, MS is not a direct plug and play ECM. However, it is well worth it. If you have the drive and the skills, do it. However, be warned, it took me three weeks the first time to wire mine up. I used to stock wiring and just adapted it to work with MS. Mistake. Use the wire kit from DIYAutoTune.com and the relay box. Much easier and more reliable. It only took me three days to rewire it with that kit. You can use all the stock sensors, I however, did buy all new ones just to eliminate them as a source of problems later.
It scared the crap out of me when I hit the key the first time and it fired to life as if pissed off that I had put it through that torture. I did not expect it to just fire right up. I expected a fight.
MS is not easy to assemble. If you are not skilled in soldering, buy a pre-assembled one. It look me longer to find all my bad solder joints than it took to re-wire the car the second time.
I will give one word of advice to anyone wanting to install MS, patients. Do not rush any part of the install, check and double check, then check again.
I will install another one in my '68 Firebird convertible project. I will most likely install one in my wife's Jaguar too.
Feel free to PM any questions you have, I will try to answer to the best of my ability.
