Hello all, I recently drove though a flooded road, stalled out in the middle of it, but managed to start the car and get out of it. Everything was fine for the remainder of my ride, but after letting my car sit for about 2 hours, I restarted it and my Check Engine Light has been on since. I jumped the pins and got a Code 23. My Chilton's says M/C Solenoid, but as I looked around online to find out what that is exactly, I found another code list that said 23 was a MAP or TPS code. I'm thinking the online list might be for an 8 cylinder, but would like to know which is right for a 2.8? Secondly, where is the M/C solenoid and how can I check it? I already tried clearing the ECM and got nowhere, the light is still on. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!!

Code 23 is open or grounded mixture control solenoid circuit. It is set when the ECM term #18 stays low instead of rising and falling as the M/C solenoid is turned ON and OFF.

An open circuit will cause a full rich condition and cause poor economy, odor, smoky exhaust, or poor driveability. A grounded M/C circuit will cause a full lean condition and cause very poor driveability.

The M/C solenoid is inside the carb. There is an electrical connector going to it on the top of the carb. On the Rochester E2SE 2-bbl carb that the V6 engines use the M/C solenoid can be removed without removing the carb top plate. There are just three small screws around the solenoid that have the be removed and then it can be pulled out of the carb.

That's the weird thing, car still drives and runs the same - should it? Is this a big job involving a lot of adjustments, or relatively simple......kinda just swapping out a part? I will look it over tomorrow and make sure there are no loose or disconnected wires first. Thanks for your help - Vinny.

The wires seem fine at the solenoid side. Can anyone tell me if this job is just a simple swap, or are there a lot of specifics involved? I suck at carburetor repair! The part is $120, I still have choke problems in the cold, should I just have the carb rebuilt while I am tinkering in this department? Thanks - Vinny.
