ECU / injector question

Hey guys.
My 85 T/A with '87 350TPI and assumably the 165 ECU, has been running rough at idle, cutting out when a/c goes on and feeling a little gutless. Not sure where to start I went about finding out exactly what engine I had under the hood and where it came from etc.
I've since found out that its an 86-95 350TPI that was reconditioned just over a year ago.
What I also found is that the TPI setup was orginally from a 305TPI motor.... and still has the 305 19lbs injectors on it. When the new motor was put in, there was some problems so a MEMCAL chip was put in and the ecu was remapped and buggered around with by a so-called "professional" to get it to run right.
My question is this:
Would running 19lbs injectors on a 350 be enough of an issue to cause the rough idle and gutless power, when combined with the ecu being remapped to compensate, and being "too" lean, or is it perfectly normal to run the smaller injectors so long as the ecu is set up for it?
And, would the car run better with the 22lbs injectors and the ecu remapped again to suit?
engine is stock with extractors- each side 4->2->1->cats joined to single 3" exhaust.
