Accel DFI Gen 7 opinions?
Im finally installing my Gen 7 accel set up in my 91 Z. Just wondering if you guys had any opinions about whats the best way to do it and what i need to bypass and such

When I did my install a year ago, I removed the entire engine bay harness and separated the engine / ECM side of it from the rest of it. I reinstalled the entire harness coming from the driver's side of the engine bay to run everything it hooks to and then installed the Gen 7 ECM in the factory location and routed the wiring through the same factory path. With everything so clearly labeled the install was simple after we decided which wires to shorten and solder together when they were too long. We also split open some portions of the Gen 7 wiring loom to shift where some of the wires were routed into separate pieces to get them where we really wanted them.
The biggest pain of the entire operation was separating out the original harness into its pieces so we could keep what was needed and junk the rest.

Thanks for the info, i just got the old harness out today and hopefully after school tomorrow i can get some more done, im looking to get as much information about this set up as possible though, i dont want to go into this blindly and not knowing anything about it! Thanks again

My only real question for you at this point is what are you doing to the engine that you're replacing the ECM with an aftermarket one? This is a lot of hassle and expense unless you're powering something pretty far from stock with it.

The engine is not at all stock, its got Forged Keith Black pistons 10.5:1 compression, its cammed (cant remember the specs at the moment), ported Vortech Heads with GM Roller Valvetrain, and its got an SDPC lower intake with Edelbrock Runners and a ported plenum with 58mm Holley Throttle body. Basically i might have been able to get by with the factory computer but PO only had it reflashed about 10 times trying to get the car to run with it so its pretty messed up, its picking up knock when it shouldnt be so its retarding the timing quite a bit, up to 20 degrees at idle, so its simpler to just put the new accel kit in since i have it, i basically got it for free from the PO and i know it'll work

Free is a good enough reason for me. The only issue with it is not control of any form of emissions equipment but if your in SD then there probably isn't a requirement for that anyway.
Some of the accessories you might want if it didn't come with it:
1) AC control kit (for now I'm relying on the high pressure switch as a cutoff but might add this later)
2) Fan control kit (didn't use since I live in Phoenix and just wired both fans to ignition power)
3) Torque convertor lockup kit (still in the box waiting to get dropped in)
The system also uses a manifold intake temp sensor that you'll need to build a bracket for so that it touches the intake near an intake port. It was pretty straight forward with a HSR intake but a TPI base will be more interesting.
If it came with their dual sync distributor, the install on that isn't that bad to get it set for sequential fueling instead of batch.
