Car dies/wont restart after long trips

Today I took a 200 mile round trip to go pick up some parts from craigs list and 30 miles into the return trip I pulled into a rest stop and the truck was idling bad and stalled as I got into a parking spot and wouldnt restart. Just crank and crank and every once in a while it would catch and run for a second but die and a puff of smoke would come out the throttle body. It was doing perfectly fine on the freeway though, no symptoms at all. No CEL and when I finally got the truck home 4 hours later and got it off the wrecker the damn thing started right up and ran great, just like before. I even took it around the block and it was perfect but now I'm nervous to take it very far from home.

What is your opinions on what can cause something like this without setting a code? I am thinking maybe a ignition module starting to go bad and the heat it created from 1.5 hours of driving made it so it died till it had time to cool off. Sound logical? Its one of the few parts that isnt new.

I couldnt test the fuel pressure out on the road but the pump is a brand new Delco pump and I could not only hear it prime but I could hear fuel circulating. I did have spark when it was going on, I dont know if it is was timed correctly but it was sparking.

Its the truck in my signature, I should also mention that I have a MSD Digital 6+.
