i pulled an ecm box in a JY and figured id take the PROM chip since i need one for my 350 tpi. turns out there was no PROM inside but there was a small little black chip instead, wtf? no clue. think it has a small RN logo or something on it...thought that was weird there was no original blue/brown PROM chip...anyone one know what it could be??

 

What you have is that chip and the other one and a third one in a complete unit, referred to as a MEMCAL. That one from the junkyard is a PROM, and the other, smaller chip, is referred to as a CALPAK (there's 2 chips in earlier models). Both are inside your MEMCAL, with an ESC board. You'll need to find a 1227730 or something like it for the MEMCAL.

 

ohhh ok i see. the guy told me it was a '91 but after i saw all that i thought no way. i was sooo confused after popping the ecm open and reading the numbers on the box. thanks for that info though, sure helps.

wasnt sure if it was some sort of aftermarket piggy back chip or something. guess its useless for me? or may someone possibly need it? i got it for free so just holding on to it.

Someone may need the whole ECM, or just the chip. I know I can't use either. Place an ad in the Classifieds... you might get a bite.

 

thats what i was thinking. but im going to do that all at once. i have so many parts to post so ill take pics and do it in a group..i also have the ECU and PROM for a 350tpi MAF along with the MAF sensor...im sure people can use all that as well...but good idea thanks man
