Accel DFI Computer

Hey guys and gays. Had a quick question.

I know a guy who is selling an Accel DFI computer w/ harness for the crackhead price of $75!

It's the one that looks similar to the stock unit.

Since I have an 85 with a stock computer I know it doesn't get much worse than that, but how would this thing run compared to the stock ECM? Not only in terms of datalog/tunability but also just the overall condition of the engine?

Is this computer pretty much plug and play (Not counting the other points I'm about to raise)? Can I use the stock TPI harness? How do you go about tuning these things? Can a memcal/prom be used or can the computer itself only be reprogrammed?

alot depends on the version of the dfi system. it is not plug and play, you need the harness to run to the specified units .what version?

It's the oldschool one that looks similar to the stock ECM so I'm gonna say a gen 6.

He says it includes a TPI harness. The only thing that concerns me is he said the car it came from was like 87 or 89. I know there were several things on TPI that were unique to the 85 year.

Can this unit be plugged up to a stock TPI harness or must you use the harness from Accel? Does this use memcal/prom setup or is it only programmable?

Re: Accel DFI Computer

you would have to use the new harness, not sure what is quite differen't, hopefully someone that knows the tpi differences will chime in. Other than that you would program the ecm through a laptop, i have gen 7, and i've messed around with other 'non domestic' tuners. I would shoot a email over to accel quick regarding the harness plugs/plugins

Re: Accel DFI Computer

You can use your existing wire harness. Contact Dan White at Dan White Racing. He has an adapter harness that allows you to plug your factory harness into the interface, then plug the interface into the DFI. It also has a plug that allows you to plug right into the harness. You will also need to purchase a MAP sensor and MAP sensor harness. Dan should be able to help you out with this as well.

MAP sensor? Sorry I'm confused. Mine is an 85 with MAF.

Re: Accel DFI Computer

HiTech may be suggesting Accel 6 is SD requiring MAP sensor. A search may show something on that.
