TPI questions (ECM related mostly)

Ok, so, I am picking up a 350 TPI from a junk yard next weekend. The engine is pulled from the car already and not really a way to tell which one.

SO, if I understand correctly I can grab a harness from any TPI car 305 or 350.

But how do I tell what ECM I need for that engine.

And was there not a MAF and a speed density set up on the TPI engines? And would those be a different harness and how would I tell what harness I need if that is the case?

when it comes to LB9/L98:

85-89 were MAF, 90-92 were MAP.

86-89 used the same ECM, 90-92 used the same ECM.

IIRC, the 89 harness removed the cold-start injector.

thats what i needed to know. How do I ID if its MAF or MAP on the engine to be sure I pull one out of the correct year? Is the year stamped on by the 5.7?

It all depends on what you want to run, Maf or Map if the engine does not have a cold start injector or even if it does you can delete it. You need a harness and ecm from which ever system you choose to run. harness and ecm need to match every thing else is just a matter of changing sensors if needed, some sensors are the same for both.

Is there an advantage to one or the other?? and is it something I could change out if I somehow did get the wrong stuff?

Re: TPI questions (ECM related mostly)

90-92 ECM has 3 connectors on it.
90-92 Map cars have the MAP sensor mounted on the pass side of the intake plenum.
89-92 TPI motors don't have an extra injector between injectors 3 and 5, and there will not be a cold start sensor on the front of the intake manifold with an injector style connector.

they say maf is more forgiving to mods to engine than SD, but SD does not require the expensive maf sensor I went with SD because I could go with air filter mounted directly on TB for my 54 chevy and to me it was a lot easier to wire in my opion.

Re: TPI questions (ECM related mostly)

Those TPI motors used the 1227165 ECM. The MAP engines used a 7730 in some years if i am not mistaken (im tired). The 7730 has 3 harness connectors and the 165 has only 2.
