91 305 tbi running bad after smog pump removal and headers, HELP!! :(

I took off my smog pump on my 91 rs 305tbi camaro and put on new headers and exhaust today and i had to run a longer belt.... but now since all that is off my car is ideling rough and when driving up a hill or acceleration, it will cut in and out from 1500 to 2000 etc at diferent RPMS and my service engine light is on. could that be my O2 sensor thats bad? and is there a different type of O2 sensor i shoud be using since i have headers? But could the car need a tune up now since i hat to run a longer belt?

Thanks, Nelson. i could really use some help on this

Have you checked for all the simple things already? Like broken / mis-gapped spark plugs, bad or crossed plug wires, loose vacuum hoses, etc? Also, Go back over everything that you did and make sure that everything that you may have un-plugged during dis-assembly got plugged back in during the re-assembly process. does your car have mass air? If so, make sure the meter is hooked up. The last time I had a problem like you are describing, I replaced the plug wires and that fixed it. That wasn't on a GM car though....

most likely the problem is plug wires & vacuum leaks . with headers OEM plug wires don't hack it . vacuum leaks can be anywhere . a custom made set of plug wires is a good up-grade . vacuum hose is cheap , if it may be bad change it . be careful of old/brittle plastic , it can break very easy . good luck .

It may be the 02 sensor is not seeing sufficient heat due to headers and it drops out of CL to OL. That happened to me with headers and cool temps here in WI. Soo the solution may be a heated 02 sensor. But that is not to say other issues exist.
