upgrading ecm but where to start!!!

I have a 87 iroc with a L-98 350. I am wanting to upgrade my ecm but not sure where to start... I am amusing i have a 165 ecm and i can upgrade it to a newer ecm used in 88/89. If i do this what do i need and how hard is it to wire it up??? How much does this cost??

Also it i was to do a Mega Squirt II Ecm what do i need and what is the cheapest way to do this with out building my own kit.. Seams like a lot of work to build.... A list of part # would be greatly appreciated for both kits. Thanks Shane!!!

Why do you want to upgrade your ECM? The 165 was used until 89, just used the 6E instead of 32/32B which eliminated the cold start injector in 89 (plus a bunch of other things changed). You can upgrade to that without upgrading the ECM.

I was told the i would benefit from a different ecm because its faster/easy to tune and would have more tuning options.

There are a lot of people that tune the 165's.

Is your car stock or close to stock?

Re: upgrading ecm but where to start!!!

Well, you can swap to a 730 or stick with the 165.

Since you already have a TPI EFI setup I wouldn't think that going with Megasquirt is going to gain you much. You can do basically anything with the GM ecm as you can with MS.

I'd suggest you read all the stickies on this board and the DIY PROM before touching anything else.
