HELP!!!! I keep smoking my ecm...85 305 tpi 6870 ecm
Ok, I need help. I figured that I fried my ecm... I took it out and opened it up, looked like a chocolate chip cookie. Just got another ecm from an 86 Iroc with a 305 tpi, same ecm numbers...1226870, car fired right up, but the ecm started smoking, shut ot down imediately. Pulled it out and took it apart, same chip is fried again... At this point I dont know what to do or where to start looking, any help is appreciated, this is a daily driver, or will be if it stops catching things on fire.
Thanks
Thanks

Most likely a quad driver chip. Need to check the resistance of the various relays and solenoids. One of them is bad and is causing the ECM to fry.
This would be the CCP solenoid, EGR solenoid, fan relay, AIR solenoids, and TCC solenoid.

Thanks for things to look for, the car is AIR and AC delete, the fans are independently run off of a thermostat, they're a flex-a-lite dual setup powered off of the battery. The board itself still looks good, is there a way that I can remove one of the chips from my old ECM and solder it into the GM ECM? The trans is out of an 87 TA, don't really know if that makes a difference.

Yes, most ECMs have two or three quad-driver chips in them. Just be sure to find the offending short circuit first. Or that one will also fry.
