Will a Caprice ECM work in my Camaro?
Hello,
I am at the very beginning of doing a tranny swap in my Camaro. Here is a short history:
2.8 Fuel Injected V6 w/ 700-R4 ==> 5.7 Carb'ed V8 w/ TH350 and no ECM
I am now at the point where I REALLY miss my overdrive. So I picked up a 1986 Caprice because it will either have a 200-4R or 700-R4; I have yet to verify.
My question: Will the ECM in the Caprice properly control the torque converter lockup if I transplant the transmission into my Camaro? If there are follow-up questions let me know and I will answer. Didn't want to be too windy.

the transmission will not lock up if you're just adding an ecm; the ecm needs to be hooked up the engine side as well to properly work. there are other conversion kits you can buy to allow a 700r4 to lock-up without the factory computer. check out ebay, jegs, etc.
take a look at this thread for a bit more info:

Do you know what else the computer would need from the engine? Why wouldn't it be able to lockup the tc? Is it because no other sensors are hooked up?

Also something I forgot to mention, and I know it wasn't your question but thought you needed to know. On a OD trans, the TV cable MUST be PROPERLY installed and adjusted. Pull ratio on the cable MUST br perfect. This controls line pressure, and without correct pressure the trans WILL fail quickly. I presonally have saw more than one 700r4 burned up from improper installation of the TV cable on a carb.
