Help! Upgrading Accel Gen 6 to Gen 7

Brand new to this board and need some help, please. This forum seems to have the most experience with Accel DFI and hope someone will be able to help.
I have a 79 Nova with a 406ci with the Accel DFI SuperRam setup on it that is used for drag racing, 11.1 @120mph. I would like to update/upgrade the Gen 6 to Gen 7 but don't know for sure what parts to buy. I really don't want to buy the incorrect part numbers. We are looking to have the Nova running even faster and getting the most out of the combo.
The car is also currently running 30lb injectors, would 42's be over kill when the fuel injector calculators call for 36's? This is what Accel DFI tech support sent me.
You would need to buy the ECM for Gen 7 for an upgrade to take place.and the ECM Ugrade Kit. There are different variations in the upgrades There is also a spark and fuel kit as well. Thank You

Thanks for any help.

Re: Help! Upgrading Accel Gen 6 to Gen 7

Wondering why you would need to upgrade to Gen 7 ?
If the controller you have now can perform fuel and spark control then there is not really any advantage except possibly ease of use and better software.
the computer will not output spark or fuel better unless there is a sequential injection control available in the new version.
IDK the particulars of the DFI since I ripped mine out in 05 so someone else may comment on the benifits.

30# injectors would be 36# output at 50 psi fuel pressure.
I don't think you will have any problem running 42# injectors with a lower fuel pressure (stock is 43 psi to get the 42# rated)
Since you are already running 11's, I figure your idle is around 800-900 rpm anyway so it should be good at the low end.

It is the ease of tuning. I especially like the idea of having wide band o2's. I don't have a old laptop with DOS currently and my sponsor is willing to purchase the GEN 7 with whatever I need for it. Any particular reason you pulled your setup out? I appreciate the input.

I purchased the Nova with the setup currently in it. The idle is around 1100 rpms.

Re: Help! Upgrading Accel Gen 6 to Gen 7

Mine was a Gen 2 (IIRC) from 1992 and was in the car when I bought it.
Accell acted like it never existed, no support whatsoever in 04.
Finally got a programming cable and software through some outside vendors but it only controlled fuel. Couldn't get it to run right with a L69 CCC ECM controlled spark and external controlled fuel. Too much messing around with knock problems etc.
Gutted all of it and put in a GM 730 and havn't looked back.

It would be good to get away from the Dos stuff. Serial ports or getting scarce too.

I don't think you will have any problems with the bigger injectors at the low end.

Re: Help! Upgrading Accel Gen 6 to Gen 7

The Gen 7 offers a lot more tunability for fueling, spark as well as datalogging capability etc.
Actually the newer Thruster offers a lot of the same for less $$$$.

I hear horror stories about the level of support for Accel. That was true before but it's much much better now and I'd put the drivability capabilites of an Accel over anything in it's class anyday.

Hope this helps.
Mark

P.S. I'm the one in their "How-To" video.

Re: Help! Upgrading Accel Gen 6 to Gen 7

Thanks for the responses. I have had quite a few tell me to put a carb on the car but I really like fuel injection. Tech at the drag strip is quite fun when I lift the hood and they see the Super Ram.

I will be upgrading just have to get all the info.
