Need some advice

I'm getting ready to install a TPI from an 89 corvette in my 77 El Camino. The elky has a 383 ci engine and 700r4 tranny. I would like to use a OBDII ECM with a EEPROM and program it as 90 corvette using the speed density and then tuning it from there. Can anyone tell if this will work and what issues will I have? Thanks, Steve.

I am not quite sure of what you are asking. You can't run the SD Corvette code ($8D) in an ODB-II ECM. You can upgrade to an OBD-II ECM along with everything else that goes with it.

See this link at the top of the TPI board:

http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/tp...-cylinder.html

Could run the $8D code in a '7730 ECM. That is the set up for the '90-'92 TPI f-body cars. Same code ($8D) was used in the '90-'91 Corvettes, except in an under-hood '7727 ECM.

Re: Need some advice

Thanks RBob, That was my original plan and I'm thinking it is probably the best way to go without a lot of headaches. I was just wondering if there was any advantage to using a newer style ecm, and it sounds like it may be way too much work for not alot of gain. So I'm getting a 7727 ecm and going that route. Thanks again for the information

Not sure what injectors you have but you will need to step up to at least 24#hr. check this out to get you started on the tune.

Before going with a '7727 ECM, check what that ECM uses for connectors. They are quite different then the '89 Corvette '7165 ECM and the newer SD '7730 ECM.

The only reason to use the '7727 is if it is going to be under the hood.

Re: Need some advice

wow that's quite a list. Sorry for the interuption, had to pick my wife up at work, someone has to earn a living here, lol. If you'd like to sell your ecm, I'd like to buy it. Maybe I could drive down there either this weekend or next and pick it up. And yes it's gpoing under the hood, not really much room under the dash and I don't have to cut a big hole in the firewall.
